Dino Drac’s July Funpack is here, and actually, if you’re a subscriber, it’s already on its way to you! Many have already been delivered! (Better to ship early and post late than the other way around!)
Subscriptions are currently maxed out, but I have just a few extras that I can offer on an individual basis. The Funpacks are $25, and that (somehow) includes shipping to anywhere in the United States. Zip to the bottom if interested, and cross your fingers that I have any left!
This summery box is the last one before the Funpacks embark on their annual three-month all-spooky sojourn. The Halloween boxes ARE COMING, but for now, let’s enjoy these last rays of plastic sunshine. Here’s what’s inside:
As cool as this obviously is at first glance, trust me, it’s twice as special as you think! You’ll each receive a vintage McDonald’s Mayor McCheese Fast Macs car, from 1984!
Now, an important history lesson. The Fast Macs – pull-back cars featuring McDonaldland characters – were famously given a national release in 1985. Those are the versions most people remember. But they were also regionally test-marketed in 1984, with a different style of packaging.
This is one of the cars from that earlier regional release, and also the BEST one. See, three of the four cars from the ‘84 release – Ronald, the Hamburglar and Officer Big Mac – were repeated in 1985. But our hero Mayor McCheese was replaced by Birdie in ‘85. That means his Fast Mac was only available in 1984, and far fewer kids ever had one!
Because of that, Mayor McCheese is the rarest of the Fast Macs, and it’s not uncommon for eBayers to list one of these cars for more than you’re paying for this entire Funpack!
Your toy will arrive still sealed on its original card, pulled straight from an ancient factory case. The bubbles have yellowed with age, and the cards may have light storage wear, but overall, as far as Mayor McCheese Fast Macs go, these are as good as they get!
Since most of you will likely try to resist opening up that valuable Fast Macs car, I thought I’d give you a toy you could feel better about actually playing with.
You’ll each receive one of these 2.5” Super Mario mini-figures, released by Jakks in 2022. They may be on the smaller side compared to traditional action figures, but Mario really knows how to *work* this scale. Adorable figures!
I have three different styles, and you’ll get one at random. In the mix are Super Mario, Fire Mario, and Ice Mario. (I’m old enough to have no idea where Ice Mario comes from, but I love his revered color scheme all the same.)
These figures are bright, shiny, and capable of delivering immense joy to all who hold them. Prepare yourselves for marvelous Mario-fueled vibes.
For this month’s snacks, you’re getting a one-two punch. First is a four-pack of Dubble Bubble Cotton Candy Gumballs, which really DO taste (and smell) like cotton candy, for a Proustian hit of summer vacation nostalgia.
You’ll also receive a generously-sized pack of Blue Diamond’s “Mike’s Hot Honey” Almonds, which are delicious. I don’t know how or why “hot honey” became such a fad flavor, but you can’t disagree with the results. These are legitimately GOOD.
Oh, and for funsies, let’s throw in a vintage pack of ProSet MusiCards, from 1991! Featuring the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Vanilla Ice and Janet Jackson, it’s a set full of pop star rookie cards sure to delight and amaze.
NOTE: While all official subscribers will receive this pack, I’ve since run low, so if you buy one of the extras, just note that you might get a different vintage trading card pack, unrelated to anything that would’ve been on MTV.
Rounding things out, you’ll also get this month’s exclusive 5×7” cardstock mini-poster, featuring a scan of my ultra-rare box of Keebler’s Mini Middles, which were basically tiny-sized Magic Middles. Joining it is this month’s 2×2” sticker, starring an old Ninja Turtle popsicle.
