Dino Drac’s Patchwork Project!

Over the course of two days, more than 130 Dino Drac readers sent in weird and wonderful “patches” of art, to be included in a ridiculous virtual quilt. I cannot thank the participants enough. I think we’ve created something beautiful together. Strange, but beautiful. Here’s the finished product!

This is amazing. This is amazing times a thousand.

One hundred and thirty two individual pieces of art, assembled into a virtual quilt. An oddly thin virtual quilt, but a virtual quilt nonetheless. How big is it? Over seventy three inches long. Were you to print this out, it would be over six feet tall.

I could not love it more. Every square means something. Some are gags, some are serious, and some can only be understood by the people who created them. There’s no sense in picking a favorite, because that’s not the point. We’ve built something that’s worth more than the sum of its parts.

Some may think that I’m overstating things. That these are just 132 images that happen to be the same size, all huddled together. Oh, how I pity those who cannot see the forest for the trees.

Pouring over our quilt, I lost track of time. Completely and totally lost track of time. Every square just seems to mean something. Somehow, together, they all mean so much more.

Thanks to all who joined in. Our wacky work of art will live forever, or at least until I get a job in politics and scrub all traces of me from the Internet.

(I still capitalize “internet.” I’m old school.)

Some notes, for info and posterity:

1. Each image is precisely 160×160 pixels.

2. I had to leave out a few submissions because they were too far from the correct dimensions to work. Sorry! If you don’t see yours but believe you were within the guidelines, please e-mail me!

3. For those who are seeing this way late, the original “quilt” only featured my submission (the first patch) and a long series of Super Mario Question Blocks. (Image at right for reference.) Slowly but surely, everyone took over those Question Blocks, adding more and more rows. We ended up with what you see above!

4. In general, the patches were added in the order that they were received.
