The Art of Being Nick.

You remember Nick from Family Ties, right? Mallory’s punky artist boyfriend?

Way back when, NBC took note of the character’s popularity and made motions towards a spinoff show. The pilot episode of The Art of Being Nick aired in August of ’87 and apparently did decent ratings, but if Wikipedia can be believed, NBC got cold feet about removing a key character from one of its biggest shows.

Despite being a Family Ties fan for as long as I can remember, I never heard about Nick’s extracurricular endeavors until the internet age. No idea if this pilot episode was any good, but it’s gotta be worth a watch even if only for curiosity’s sake.
