Dino Drac After Dark

Halloween Monster Bash!

Tonight’s pick is so obscure and great, it could only have come from Jugendsehnsucht:

Get a load of Halloween Monster Bash, a super cheesy NBC special from 1991. Starring John Astin and Rhonda Shear (Yes!), it’s like a variety show mixed with a clip show.

(I’d never heard of this special until Juge pitched it, and the YouTube video has a hideously low number of views. Definitely on the rarer side, so worth seeing if only for the street cred points!)

Creepy Commercials from ’88!

Hey guys! Sorry I didn’t get a chance to update After Dark last night. Was out for most of the weekend, and the thought of trying to figure out how to post from my phone made me violently ill.

This year I’ve been practicing what I preach and trying to do more Halloween stuff — meaning stuff that goes beyond what I can do at home, and stuff that goes beyond shopping at the usual locations.

If you love this season, it’s so important. During prior Countdowns, this was when I usually started experiencing a bit of burnout. This year? None at all. I’m totally loving this season, and am much more worried about not having time than not having motivation.

So yeah… get out there and do stuff! It works wonders.

Tonight’s pick comes from pikachulover, and I love it as much as I assume she loves Pikachu.

It’s a collection of TV commercials from October ‘88, pulled from the premiere episode of Freddy’s Nightmares. They’re not all spooky, but my God does this compilation fill me with Halloween spirit.

Enjoy!

Free-For-All Friday Thread #13!

Happy 1st day of autumn!

The History of Halloween!

Here’s another one of those spooky History Channel docs, suggested by the wonderful vhslvy:

Enjoy Halloween History: The True Origin of Halloween!

I can’t get enough of these docs. Seriously can’t. They’re virtual comfort food.
