Saturday Night’s Main Event!
Went to an NXT live event last night, if you were wondering why there was no After Dark update. For those who don’t follow wrestling, NXT is basically the WWE’s minor league — a place for newer stars to find their footing before they’re called up to the big stage. Great show!
So between that and the fact that it’s Saturday, this seemed like a fitting pick for tonight. Here’s Saturday Night’s Main Event, from November of 1989. (The video title says it’s from October, which is technically true, but it didn’t air on TV until the following month.)
Even a lot of non-fans remember this show, which occasionally ran on NBC instead of SNL. Even the lamest of ’em always had that “big event” feel, and I have so many wonderful memories of staying up late to watch Macho Man do his thing.
(In fact, I’ve already written a whole tribute to another SNME episode!)
Street Sharks!
Here’s the first episode of Street Sharks. It’s the most ’90s thing ever.
Street Sharks was basically the shark version of TMNT, which is more a compliment than a complaint.
If you like what you see, the rest of the series is easy to find online. (Or you can just buy it on DVD. I’ve seen the set in dozens of discount bins at all kinds of stores.)
Enjoy!
The Binge Survey.
…well that doesn’t sound quite right, but let’s roll with it.
Tonight’s survey:
1) What’s the last show you BINGED on?
2) What’s the next show that you NEED to binge on?
You can take “binging” a few ways, but just assume it means that you watched all available episodes of a certain series at a ridiculously fast pace. Meaning you probably threw more important things aside for the sake of just one more episode, man. You generally can’t binge on a show unless you really dig what you’re seeing, but it’s just as true that binging imparts a certain “flavor” that watching a show week-to-week doesn’t. Sometimes it’s a good flavor, other times not.
My last binge: Westworld, and yeah, it held up to the hype. Really great series. It took me under two days to devour all 10 episodes, if that’s any indication. The twists were amazing and I was completely wrong on so many guesses. About midway through, I thought it was going to be a show that was great to watch once but only once, but after the first season concluded, it pretty much mandated that you go back and watch every episode again.
Next on my list: Stranger Things. Still haven’t seen it. Don’t yell at me. I know I’m gonna love it.
Your turn!
TMNT: April Foolish!
Well, since today’s main site article is TMNT-themed, let’s keep it simple tonight:
Here’s April Foolish, an episode from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon. April Foolish might’ve been considered a throwaway ep had it not been the focus of one of Burger King’s famous TMNT videos.
NOTE: I believe the actual episode title is April Fool, but BK’s version is more commonly used.
I owned this tape as a kid and legit watched it more than 100 times.
