Dino Drac After Dark

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving!

We’re less than a week away from Thanksgiving, which is RIDICULOUS. If I blink, it’s gonna be 2018.

Here’s A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, from 1973. (Wow, 1973? For some reason I didn’t think it was quite so old.)

While nowhere near as “important” as Chuck’s Halloween or Christmas specials, I actually find A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving the easiest of the three to watch. (Which isn’t to say that I like it more — just that it’s breezier and more casual.)

I’ve now spent over 13 years blogging about Snoopy’s makeshift Thanksgiving dinner, where popcorn, toast and jelly beans stood in for turkey, stuffing and sweet potatoes. I’m still all about that scene, which to me is as much a symbol of this special as the pathetic tree is to A Charlie Brown Christmas. (And I guess The Great Pumpkin gets a rock?)

…though in fairness, I suppose the special is even more famous for gluing the Lucy-pulls-the-football gag into the public consciousness.

Here’s a Thanksgiving survey, should you feel inclined to participate:

As a kid, what were your typical Thanksgivings like? How many people? What kind of food? Any games? Any weird traditions? Spill it, in the comments.

Deck the Halls with Wacky Walls!

From 1983, get a load of Deck the Halls with Wacky Walls!

No really, it’s true! Someone made an animated Christmas special about Wacky WallWalkers — those little octopus thingies that kids flung at their bedroom walls. (Or more commonly, their ceilings, where the sticky toys would forever remain.)

It’s an interesting cartoon, I’ll give it that!

Koopa Claus!

Hey, paisanos! It’s a Christmas-themed episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

Yes, you will see King Koopa dressed like Santa Claus.

(I know some of you prefer to save this sort of stuff for December, and that’s cool, but hear me out. December is busy as hell and FLIES by, and I never watch nearly as many specials/movies as I’d intended to. I would not predict that I’d be able to find 30 minutes for Koopa Klaus in December. So here we are.)

Oh hey, the main site was updated tonight with a look at some of this year’s hottest holiday junk food, too. And you can consider this the last call for Dino Drac’s November Funpack — packing ’em as we speak!

TMNT’s First Episode!

Tonight’s random pick: The very first episode of the original Ninja Turtles cartoon.

Well, first two episodes. You kinda need ’em both.

I was (and remain) a huge fan of the series, and as these episodes prove, it got off on the right foot. Such good stuff, and it still holds up!
