Thanksgiving 1989 Commercials!

Happy Friday! Here’s a batch of TV commercials that aired on Thanksgiving back in 1989:

On a quick scan, I saw enough to confidently say that this is worth leaving on in the background.

I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is in less than a week. I hate how fast time seems to move during this season! On the bright side, TG is hitting pretty early this year, so there will still be a fair amount of November left when it’s done.

Look for new articles and a new podcast next week, and then the site will make its full transition to sleigh bells and candy canes. (Maybe I’ll even get the ol’ Christmas Jukebox working again.)

In the comments, answer this:

Think back to when you were a kid, getting presents for whatever your family celebrated in December.

Name a gift you received that seemed boring and lousy when you opened it, but ended up becoming a major fave.

Mine would have to be this old Donkey Kong 3 handheld game. It was objectively neither boring nor lousy, but it was a terrible replacement for what I was really after that year: The then-new Nintendo Game Boy.

I considered it my sworn duty to avoid playing it out of petty spite, but once I cracked, I immediately fell in love. I couldn’t get over how that teensy little electronic game had its own controllers. Christmas was saved.

Thanksgiving 1991 Commercials!

Here’s a bunch of TV commercials that aired on Thanksgiving back in 1991…

There are a couple of gems in the mix — including that singalong spot for the Home Alone video. (God, even I forgot that one!)

Try to keep the context in mind while watching these. Back in ’91, you would’ve ideally seen them on a very fully belly while hiding from the relatives in the TV room.
