1980s Twilight Zone Episode!
Here’s another gem from Ginyu Recoome, and actually one of Ginyu’s own uploads:
It’s an episode of the 1980s Twilight Zone TV series, which is largely ignored these days. (Honestly, even I forget to mention it when listing off spooky ‘80s anthology shows, and I was obsessed with them.)
This particular episode aired in 1986 and features three standalone segments, including one based on a Stephen King story. Ginyu even left in the original commercials, so let’s pretend we’re on our old couches back in ‘86. I’ll bring the Tato Skins.
PS: I did manage to film a video for tomorrow, and assuming I don’t hate it, it should be up by noon.
Child’s Play VHS Promo!
Tonight’s video was suggested by Jason H., and I have no idea how this one slipped by me:
It’s a promotional segment that was added onto VHS screener copies of Child’s Play back in 1989. Doesn’t sound like much, but don’t judge it until you’ve seen it.
I’ll let Jason describe the action: “Here’s a weird throwback to a time when VHS ruled the world, and studios had to pull out all of the stops in order to convince video stores to plunk down cash for rental copies. Here, Chucky gets roped into pitching customers on the smart business logic of paying $90 to buy copies of his movie.”
So amazing. If you were ever into the Child’s Play movies *at all*, it’s a must-watch.
New article coming to the Halloween Countdown tomorrow. It’s short, but I think it’ll resonate. I’m also hoping to have a video up on Tuesday, but we’ll see how that works out!
PS: If you’d like to submit videos to run on Dino Drac After Dark this Halloween season, there’s still time! Get all the details here!
Dracula: Live from Transylvania!
Tonight’s video is an absolute treat. It’s been sitting on YouTube since April and still only has a few hundred views, which is downright criminal.
Suggested by SpectraLeper, it’s Dracula: Live from Transylvania!
SpectraLeper adds: “This prime-time special features George Hamilton (tanning jokes included) exploring Dracula and his cultural importance ‘live’ from Transylvania. This upload has commercial breaks — including *that* Duracell commercial. I distinctly remember this special airing and getting progressively spooked as the night wore on.”
HOT DAMN. A cheesy/creepy Dracula TV special from the ‘80s, complete with the amazing “Duracula” commercial? Perfect, guys. This is perfect.
PS: Saturdays are normally reserved for Free-For-All Threads, but since we’ve had so many of those lately, I thought you’d appreciate a video. As always, comments needn’t necessarily pertain to the featured video — you can still chat about whatever!
After Dark’s Halloween Season Begins Now!
Greetings, After Darkers! The season is now!
Dinosaur Dracula’s 2018 Halloween Countdown HAS BEGUN, and its arrival marks the start Dino Drac After Dark’s own little Countdown. Spooky videos will be posted every night between now and October 31st!
If you’re new to Dino Drac After Dark, think of it as a halfway-hidden clubhouse, where a bunch of cool peeps come to watch weird videos while shooting the shit about things that only sometimes have to do with those videos.
It’s basically an escape from the internet that just happens to still be a part of it, if that makes sense.
I don’t often advertise After Dark, so it’s on you to remember to visit this place. (To that end, a banner appears on the main page at midnight, encouraging you to pull up a chair.) Updates are always made by 12AM EST, but sometimes come in a few hours before then.
You can talk about the featured video or just chat about whatever you want. We’re all Halloween nuts around these parts, so never be afraid to gush about your favorite new candy or horror movie trailer.
To cover After Dark through the Halloween season, I asked y’all to send in video suggestions. You really came through! Let’s kick off the Countdown with TWO videos:
First is the pilot episode of Gravedale High, from 1990. Thanks for the suggestion, Teddy Ray!
Plot synopsis, from Wikipedia: “The show revolves around the misadventures of human teacher Max Schneider, who has unwittingly taken a job at Gravedale High, a school for monsters. Schneider, the only human in the school, presides over a group of ghoulish teenagers that are the latest-generation versions of classic movie monsters.”
Bonus points: Max Schneider was voiced by Rick Moranis!
…and then for something way different:
Suggested by Ginyu Recoome, get a load of Ants, a 1977 made-for-TV movie about… ants! KILLER ants!
Plot synopsis, from IMDB: “An old-fashioned lakeside hotel targeted for purchase by an unsavory casino promoter is attacked by an army of poisonous ants.”
A movie about murderous ants, starring Suzanne Somers of all people? Count me in! The film was originally known as It Happened at Lakewood Manor, but since that title offers no hints of an ant attack, I prefer the other one.
Enjoy, guys. We’re just getting started! Check After Dark every night, all season long!
