Mako: The Jaws of Death!
This one sounds so promising that I hate to bury it on a Tuesday night, but oh well…
Suggested by Ginyu Recoome, get set for Mako: The Jaws of Death, from 1976.
But wait, it gets better: This is an old USA Network broadcast hosted by Commander USA, with all of the original commercials!
MAN. That sounds perfect.
Here’s the movie synopsis, swiped from YouTube:
“During the Vietnam War, US soldier Sonny Stein is saved from a pursuing enemy by a Mako shark. He begins to appreciate Makos after that. After the war, Stein finds work in the Philippine Islands as a marine salvager. A Filipino shaman gives him a medallion that helps him develop a telepathic rapport with Makos. Once back home in Florida, Stein decides to become Makos defender. A shady scientist who wants to research the sharks and a strip club owner who wants to use the sharks in a stripping act try to get Stein to use his powers to help them with their plans.”
Enjoy!
TV Commercials from August 1993.
Since I spent most of the day writing about my diary from the summer of ’93, here’s something that sorta connects!
It’s a big batch of TV commercials that aired in NY back in August of 1993… which means that they’re pretty much exactly the commercials I’ve would’ve endured while rotting in my old bedroom, writing those diary entries.
It doesn’t look like the most exciting mix, but that’s kind of the point. These commercials and the shows they broke up would’ve just been on in the background while I putzed around with my comic books and microwave pizzas. White noise of the mutant sort, mixed with the hum of an oscillating fan and so many crickets.
Crystal Pepsi Employee Training Video?!
Here’s a pile of absolute gold, suggested by our pal Jugendsehnsucht…
Yup. The official Crystal Pepsi Employee Training Video, from 1992. Holy shit.
Jugendsehnsucht adds: “This is an absolute gem. Sixteen minutes of pure, unadulterated soda hype from before they realized it was going to be a flop (“Crystal is certainly not a flash in the pan…”, “Crystal has generated the kind of following that guarantees that it will be around for a long time…”) and some really awkward line readings in its second half. Digitized and posted online for the very first time just days ago!”
I. Love. This.
