The deal: Things became really busy over the last few weeks. As busy as I’ve been in a long time, and too busy to run Dino Drac right. Rather than put up really weak no-thought content (yeah, even weaker than a Twizzler robot), I decided to just get through the storm and return to this once it passes.
I’m finally over the hump, but I’d say there’s about a week left before I can really dive back into the site. But, I’ll be back with fun stuff soon enough. Hope everyone had a great 4th, even if it was doomed as a midweek blip. See you soon!
He may have turned up in a photo before, but I think it’s time for you to officially meet Carlo.
Carlo is great. He’s great for way more than five reasons, but I’m on a tight time budget.
Actually, just going by the photo above, I’m sure you could dream up more than twenty reasons why Carlo’s so great. It’s no tall order. Only the worst cynics, the jerks who are contrary just for the sake of it, wouldn’t be able to. Read More…
Since you guys did such a great job last time, I thought we’d give it another try.
In a single comment, your job is to explain what you’re seeing here.
Again, there are no wrong answers. This image has more than one story to tell.
I look forward to reading your ideas. In all sincerity, it will be the highlight of my tomorrow.
It’s time for Bullshit Filler Content Devised At Work #2.
This one was important. Today was crazy busy. I knew I wouldn’t have the energy to come up with an original concept after the long commute home. If I wanted to post anything tonight, I needed a BFCDAW miracle.
I think it was around 3PM when I asked my editor to ignore me for a little while. He didn’t. Can’t say I blame him, because it’s pretty tough to ignore a coworker when he’s building a robot out of Twizzlers and paper plates, right behind you.
For the record, my brain was against this. Very, very much against this. I told you, it was a crazy day. I know it’s hard to believe, given that I had time to build a robot and all, but you don’t understand. I built this robot FAST. Nobody has ever built a robot faster.
My brain said, “Don’t be stupid. Just draw another Troll 2 goblin. That’s all you have time for.” But my heart won out, because it knew the truth. If I started making every BFCDAW a goblin sketch, people really would start to see these things as filler posts.
Nope. HAD to be a robot.
My materials: A paper plate, a plastic cup, a few markers and some individually wrapped Twizzlers. Post-Its, too. I don’t know. I was just grabbing whatever I could find. It was madness. The whole activity couldn’t have lasted more than fifteen minutes, but it was fifteen minutes of madness. Read More…
One thing I dig about Dino Drac is the chance to get even more mileage out of things I’ve already covered a hundred times. Yay for Boglins!
If you don’t remember them, Boglins were monstrous, rubber hand puppets that came out in the late ’80s, ready to rock our worlds with twirling arms and gaping mouths. While a much bigger deal overseas, they still had their day in the sun here, and even if it only lasted a few short months, the “Boglins Era” was among my favorite moments of kid life.
They came in many shapes and sizes, but “Bog-O-Bones” and “Blobkin” — a pair of special edition Halloween Boglins — were clearly the fan favorites. Or, you know, my favorites.
I liked Boglins enough to film a ten minute video about them.
I can’t remember who, but someone actually requested this as a vlog topic. Blame them.
Oh, and here’s the YouTube backup version. I’m being so stubborn on the Vimeo thing.
There’s a new feature up. I’m currently ninja editing, so if you act fast, you’ll get to catch so many typos and flat punchlines. It’s about one of my favorite things ever, sincerely. I’m shocked that it’s taken so long for me to do that thing I do with the things I take pictures of.
Behold, the Toys “R” Us “R” Treat Box, from 1992!
Also, this doubles as the Saturday Night Thread. I can prove it:
It’s either the Saturday Night Thread, or the Schmidt-Newtonian Telescope.
