Dino Drac’s April Funpack is here! Actually, if you’re a subscriber, it’s already on its way!
While subscriber boxes have all been shipped, I have some spares that I can offer on an individual basis. As always, the cost is $25, and that includes shipping to anywhere in the United States.
There are a few heavy hitters in the collectible department this month, plus artwork, cards, a weird snack and more. Jump to the bottom for ordering info, or keep reading to learn about everything in the April Funpack!
Leading the charge is a genuine Kenner Care Bears Poseable Figure, from 1983! Get reacquainted with Friend Bear, the flower-bellied, brown-furred patron saint of palling around!
These figures were originally sold in toy stores, but I guess Kenner ran some sort of mail-away promotion with Friend Bear back then, as these are all sealed in factory baggies. They’re also coming straight out of ancient Kenner factory cases, which means that your Care Bear has never been played with!
This is one of the oldest items I’ve ever included in a Funpack! The figures stand around three inches tall, with poseable heads, arms and legs. What a score this was!
To keep these Friend Bears comfortable on their postal journeys, I’m sticking each into a lucky cloth pouch, adorned with stamped-on hearts.
Note: While the figures are in perfect shape, they’ve been trapped in plastic baggies for more than four decades! After you open them, give them a day to air out, and for the slightly-sticky feel of their limbs to dissipate.
Here’s another big swing – a very vintage pack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Puffy Stickers! These are from the late ‘80s, and they’re actually an import from the Netherlands, similar to the packs we got in the States but with slightly cruder packaging.
You will get the exact set of stickers shown here, featuring a mix of Ninja Turtles, plus the team logo, plus one stray Rocksteady. The packages are still sealed, and while I have not tested them, I assume the stickers are still perfectly adhesive.
Vintage Ninja Turtles stuff has really spiked in value over the last few years. Even the old trading card packs are now pretty pricey. The chance to work in something like this was a very nice surprise, and I’m thrilled to spread the TMNT treasures with you all!
And what’s this? Why yes, it’s yet another vending machine patch from the 1980s! Get set for a very old Snorks patch, which is really more like an oversized fuzzy sticker.
These were originally crushed into capsules and sold inside red vending machines for a quarter a pop. It’s a miracle that they’ve survived since the ‘80s, especially in such nice condition. And they still stick! You’ll each get one of these patches. Look for it near the bottom of your Funpack!
For this month’s snack, you’ll each receive a giant-sized pouch of BIGS Dill Pickle Sunflower Seeds, made in partnership with Vlasic. (Complete with the pelican cameo that I know you were hoping for.)
“Pickle snacks” can be pretty divisive, but trust me, these are GOOD. They’ve managed to work in the flavor without making it overbearing. They don’t taste “artificial,” if that makes sense. For whatever it’s worth, this was my official snack of WrestleMania weekend.
I’m not kidding about the size, either – you’re getting almost three ounces’ worth of seeds in every pouch. They’ll keep you busy for more than a little while!
Next up, you’ll each receive one of these Ugglys Pet Shop blind bags, each including an adorably gross pooch figure. This toy line hit the scene around a decade ago and vanished almost instantly, presumably because there just wasn’t a big market for gross dog figurines. (There’s no accounting for taste!)
Sort of in the vein of The Trash Pack and The Grossery Gang, I’m sure you’ll have no trouble figuring out what to do with a tiny-sized demented dog. There are many in the series. You’ll get one at random, still trapped in its original blind bag.
Wrapping things up, you’ll also get this pile of goodies, including a pack of Dinosaurs TV series trading cards from the ‘90s, this month’s 5×7” cardstock mini-poster (hello old ice cream truck menu), this month’s 2×2” sticker (a creepy witch), plus the April Funpack Newsletter, and an exclusive essay that will never be reprinted on the site.
This month’s essay goes into detail about what it’s like to live with Halloween the Cat, my little boy with cerebellar hypoplasia. An admittedly odd essay topic for the Funpack, but inspiration hits where it hits.
So yep, you’ll get everything shown in this post, for $25, and that includes shipping to anywhere in the United States. (United States only, please!)
