Purple Stuff: The 1985 Sears Wish Book!

The latest Purple Stuff Podcast here, and it’s an absolute holiday nostalgia bomb. Pour some cocoa and go find Dad’s old legal pad, because we’re making our Christmas lists from the 1985 Sears Wish Book!

If you grew up when we did, I shouldn’t need to tell you how important these books were, especially in the ‘80s when there were more toy lines than I could begin to count. Too young to drive and in a world without the internet, this was how we kept tabs on *everything* that was out there… and how we built our lists for Santa.

On our latest episode, me and Jay from Sludge Central are naming eight of our favorite finds from the 1985 Wish Book’s 500+ pages, covering everything from Star Wars to Super Powers to Masters of the Universe and beyond!

…which you can also find on Apple, Spotify, or wherever else you listen to podcasts!

Also, big props to my pal Jason, who runs the fabulous Wishbook Web. He’s scanned tons of old Sears catalogs, which was an immense help for us with this show! You can ogle the entire 1985 Wish Book over here, or follow the links below to see the exact pages we’ll be discussing on this episode:

1. Star Wars Jabba the Hutt Action Playset!
2. DC Super Powers Hall of Justice Playset!
3. Masters of the Universe Fright Zone!
4. Masters of the Universe Bashasaurus!
5. Tonka’s Pound Puppies!
6. Lil’ Kenmore Kitchen Appliances!
7. Transformers Dinobots!
8. The Not-Quite-Barbie Snack Shack!

Thanks to Jason for the amazing work, and for letting us grab a few images, too!

…but wait, there’s more!

In addition to the new show, we’ve also dropped a special bonus episode over on Patreon, where we’re naming another two of our favorite finds from the ’85 Wish Book. This is an extra episode on top of our regularly scheduled bonus show, which is coming later this month. Thanks to everyone who supports us over there!

We hope you guys dig the nostalgia trip. Happy holidays, and thanks for spending another year listening to us gab about nonsense on the Purple Stuff Podcast!
